Health + Wellness Programs

These programs can be specifically designed to address current health issues.  We are also able to tailor the education session/s to support community groups who wish to have a short presentation at their meetings and/or social events.  We are able to explain the benefits of exercise for their chosen topic, discuss current trends within health and fitness and/or discuss current research supporting exercise as a therapy to manage many conditions.

The areas we can cover include;

Injury Management and Manual Handling Education + Training
 

We can provide Early Intervention, Injury Prevention and Manual Handling seminars/education tailored to specific industry environments (e.g. childcare, construction, banking, general office etc).  We run sessions for a minimum of 5 participants to a maximum of 10 participants as most of our sessions often involve practical components.

Pain Management Program

This program can be run as a part of a group or privately for individuals.

The individualised program consists of 6 x 1hr intensive sessions with a Psychologist and Exercise Physiologist.  These sessions can spread out over 3 months.

The group program is an intensive 4 week program focused on educating its participants in how to modify their behaviour and thought patterns regarding their chronic pain.

This program teaches participants active coping skills to improve their quality of life despite their chronic and persistent pain. During the program they will also learn relaxation techniques to enable them to manage and reduce the effects of chronic pain. The education is combined with a physical conditioning program to assist with rebuilding participant’s core body strength, muscular endurance and general functional fitness to ensuring that they can return to their activities of daily living, previous job or to find and sustain paid employment.

Costs

Individual:
6 x 1hr sessions
2 hr report (at completion of program) is $110
Hrly rate is $165.00
The total cost of program is $1100

This cost inclusive of all professional fees (Exercise Physiologist, Psychologist, Dietitian/Nutritionist, Nurse, Education sessions & Fitness classes).

Or

Group:
3 days (4hrs per day) per week for 4 weeks – Hrly rate is $99
The total cost of program is $4752.

A progress report is also sent to treating doctor half way through the program.

This cost inclusive of all professional fees (Exercise Physiologist, Psychologist, Dietician/Nutritionist, Nurse, Education sessions & Fitness classes). That is equivalent to $1188 per week.

Client with Private Health Insurance or a Medicare EPHCP referral may be able to claim a rebate (please contact individual providers or your GP for eligibility requirements).

Weight Management Program

The Merendi Weight Management Program has been designed to enable clients to make positive changes in their current lifestyle to better manage their weight and consequently decrease their risk of developing a chronic medical condition such as Diabetes or Heart Disease. Whether you have been struggling with your weight gain for many years or you wish to ensure your excess weight does not get out of control, our program will give you the tools and knowledge you need to take control of your weight and take control of your life.

We offer a multidisciplinary approach to educating people with all forms of weight problems, whether it is related to a particular medical condition, injury or your lifestyle needs improvement. Our program encourages self-management as well as having access to support and guidance from our experienced allied health team. Our program uses a combination of group and 1 on 1 consultations to enable participants to better understand how to implement small, but positive lifestyle changes to their daily activities and to give them confidence that these changes will become part of their regular routine.

The program is facilitated by dieticians, nutritionists and exercise physiologists and covers a combination of educational and practical components designed to improve clients’ knowledge and understanding of:

Our program format can be modified and changed to suit the audience.  We cater for the indigenous, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities and other groups with specific needs (i.e. pre-diabetics/impaired glucose tolerance, hypothyroidism, post-pregnancy).

Individual Assessment

All participants will be assessed before commencing our group program.  This includes taking a comprehensive patient history, identifying individual goals and preparing the client for an appropriate group program.

Duration:

Our program runs for 27 hours over 8 consecutive weeks.
This can be broken up into 2 x 2hr sessions a week.

The total cost of the program is $997. This cost is inclusive of all professional fees (Exercise Physiologist, Dietician/Nutritionist, Education sessions & Fitness classes). That is equivalent to just under $125 per week.

Private Health Insurance clients may be able to claim a rebate from their private health fund (please contact individual providers for eligibility requirements).

Type 2 Diabetes Management Program (Medicare Allied Health Group Services Scheme)

The Merendi Type 2 Diabetes Management Program has been designed to enable participants to make positive changes in their current lifestyle to better manage their condition. Whether participants are newly diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes or they require a refresher, our program will give them the tools and knowledge they need to take control of their Diabetes – and take control of their life. 

We offer a multidisciplinary approach to educating our clients with Type 2 Diabetes. Our program encourages self-management as well as having access to support and guidance from our experienced allied health team. Our program enables participants to better understand how to implement small, but positive lifestyle changes to their daily activities and to give them confidence that these changes will become part of their regular routine. 

Our program is facilitated by accredited dieticians and exercise physiologists and covers a combination of educational and practical components designed to help clients understand:

 ·         General overview of diabetes,

·         Nutritional principals and guidelines,

·         Improving blood glucose control,

·         Effective use of glycemic index and glycemic load,

·         Food labelling,

·         Weight management,

·         Physical activity guidelines,

·         Exercise Strategies. 

Our program format can be modified and changed to suit the audience. We cater for the indigenous, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities and other groups with specific needs (i.e. pre-diabetics/impaired glucose tolerance, Type I Diabetes, Gestational or newly diagnosed with diabetes). Our program format can also target specific aspects of diabetes management or for different stages of the diabetes continuum (i.e. weight loss, managing co-morbidities). 

Individual Assessment 

All participants will be assessed before commencing our group program. This includes taking a comprehensive patient history, identifying individual goals and preparing the client for an appropriate group program. 

Duration:  

Our program runs for 8 hours.

The program can run over a period of weeks or months depending on participants availability. 

Program Content: 

4 x Group Education sessions (1 hour each)

4 x Group Exercise sessions (1 hour each) 

Cost of Program: 

The total cost of the program is $247. This cost inclusive of all professional fees (Exercise Physiologist, Dietitian, Education sessions & Exercise classes). 

Eligible participants may be able to claim a Medicare rebate of up to $211 for this program. 

Pensioners with a Medicare Allied Health Group Services Scheme referral will be bulk billed.

"Reset Your Life" Lifestyle Modification Program

Reset Your Life is a new Lifestyle Modification Program (LMP) developed by the experts at Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute . It is designed to target people who are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The program teaches participants how to reduce the health risks identified by their GP that may lead to type 2 diabetes. The program's focus is on helping participants to make lifestyle changes that will ultimately prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. The LMP is subsidised by the government and run locally by our very own accredited facilitators, which include both Dietitians and Exercise Physiologists.

RESET Your Life is an accredited Lifestyle Modification Program under the Australian Government Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes program.

RESET Your Life is a subsidised program that supports eligible patients to prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes.  It is designed for patients who are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes as determined on the AUSDRISK score, a questionnaire designed to determine the risk to an individual patients.

The subsidised program is available to patients between 40-49 who have had a diagnosis of diabetes excluded.
 
The program consists of :

•    The risks of diabetes and their relationship to lifestyle risk factors
•    The importance of regular diabetes screening
•    Nutrition advice and education
•    Physical activity advice
•    Behavioural strategies to support the adoption and maintenance of healthy lifestyle changes
•    Smoking cessation and alcohol reduction advice if required
•    Information about community resources to provide support in maintaining lifestyle change
