Hundreds will be involved in the fundraising day with registrations coming from schools, clubs, businesses and health organisations from all around Queensland.
“It’s as simple as registering online, wearing something blue on November 13 and making a donation,” Diabetes Australia - Queensland CEO Michelle Trute said.
The theme for World Diabetes Day this year is understand diabetes, take control.
“It’s a call to know the warning signs and understand the serious impact of diabetes and know, where possible, how to avoid or delay diabetes and its complications,” Ms Trute said.
“I congratulate Merendi Health & Wellness for their support in raising awareness of all types of diabetes,” Ms Trute said.
“A large number of our clients have diabetes, and we’re directly involved in helping people manage the condition through exercise and nutrition,” Business Owner, Merendi Leverett said.
Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attack, stroke and amputation. It is growing at an epidemic rate, with more than 50 Queenslanders diagnosed every day. Already more than 250,000 Queenslanders have the condition and a staggering two million Queensland adults are at increased or high risk of developing diabetes.
Also this year is the World Diabetes Day Monument Challenge, where buildings are lit up in blue to raise awareness of the disease.
