Healthy Eating During Pregnancy - 14/06/2010
I know how hard it can be to make healthy food choices when pregnant, especially during the 1st trimester when you may be suffering morning sickness. It is important though that you do try to eat well and choose a variety of healthy foods.Pregnant women have increased nutritional needs, as the food you eat provides all the nutritional requirements for both you and your baby. Throughout pregnancy the food you eat provides the basic building blocks for the development and growth of your new baby. Your body also needs more energy and thus has a greater need for most nutrients during pregnancy. I spoke with our resident Dietitian – Alessandra Winfield and she says pregnant women need to ensure they are eating foods that are high in folate, iron and calcium, as all are very important in the development of the baby and also keeping you healthy during your pregnancy.
