This assessment involves the collection of medical history including detail of the injury or medical condition, previous treatment undertaken and a physical assessment of the person’s current functional abilities, physical fitness and range of movement. From this assessment our staff can provide detailed recommendations on what appropriate intervention would best aid the worker in returning to work. A brief report may be prepared if requested by the referrer.
Physical Conditioning Assessment

Physical Conditioning Consultations
Our Accredited Exercise Physiologist can provide detailed instruction provided on the correct technique for all exercises to be performed. Each client is provided with detailed handouts containing diagrams and explanations of exercises and record sheets – presented in a folder. Each exercise rehabilitation program is individually designed for the client, aimed at specifically improving their functional tolerances required for their particular work tasks and activities of daily living. These consultations also involve reviewing and upgrading a client's exercise rehabilitation program. These consultations include detailed discussion of issues the client may be having with exercises, further intervention required and their current progress at work. Continual contact is maintained with all stakeholders (insurer, employer, treating medical officer etc.) to facilitate a complete rehabilitation plan and speedy return to work.
Work Conditioning Program
Our Work Conditioning program prepares the injured worker physically and functionally to enable them to successfully return to work. This program can also assist a worker in commencing a physically demanding job or to assist a person to successfully gain vocational employment. Included in the program is an individualised and detailed instruction handout, which explains to the participant how to perform their exercise program safely and correctly. Each participant is also provided with an exercise recording sheet that enables the client fills in their completed exercises at each session. During the program each participant is given practical tools to encourage self management and enable them to be confident to continue their exercise regime on their own, after completing this program. Each individualised program is specifically designed to imitate activities the participant may be completing at work and home, therefore aiming to increase their functional tolerances in those activities specific to work and home. A brief report may be prepared if requested by the referrer on completion of the program.
Pain Management Program
This program can be run as a part of a group or privately for individuals. The individualised program consists of 6 x 1hr intensive sessions and the group program is an intensive 4 week program focused on educating its participants in how to modify their behaviour and thought patterns regarding their chronic pain.
This program teaches participants active coping skills to improve their quality of life despite their chronic and persistent pain. During the program they will also learn relaxation techniques to enable them to manage and reduce the effects of chronic pain. The education is combined with a physical conditioning program to assist with rebuilding participant’s core body strength, muscular endurance and general functional fitness to ensuring that they can return to their activities of daily living, previous job or to find and sustain paid employment.
Group Functional Rehabilitation Program
Our Group Functional Rehabilitation program prepares the injured worker physically and functionally to enable them to successfully return to work. This program can also assist a worker in commencing a physically demanding job or to assist a person to successfully gain vocational employment. This program format is similar to our Work Hardening program, but run in a group format. This is sometimes a more cost effective ways for employers or insurers to send a group of people for similar intervention. This program is often used as a preventative intervention to enable participants to improve their fitness and consequently allow them to better manage the physical demands of their current work load.
