PILATES

Pilates is a specific system of exercises. In the event of an injury the Pilates exercises can also develop and maintain strength. It has also been shown to assist with rehabilitation. In more recent times Pilates has been embraced, as it provides the specific strength and core stability needed by so many people experiencing ongoing back pain. The program includes up to 250 exercises that focus on the use of the deep abdominal muscles, correct breathing and good posture.

The exercises can be very gentle. For clients with acute and sub acute pain we design a programme of exercises that does not aggravate their pain, but rather start to activate their deep stomach and back musculature to develop strength and control around their weakened segments.

Pilates is particularly recommended for individuals who suffer from back, neck, shoulder, and knee pain due to injury or poor posture.

YOGA

Yoga is a therapy that aims to unite the mind, soul and body. Most yoga styles offered at our centres are derived from hatha yoga, a type of yoga that focuses on the body and breath and aims to develop control the body through poses (or asanas). Hatha represents the two sides of life – the yin and the yang, the dark and the light – and aims to bring these two sides into harmony and balance. Yoga balances the body, mind and spirit and each class may differ in terms of focusing on different things such as poses, breathwork, alignment or the flow of movement.

Breathing is very important in yoga as the breath signifies your vital energy. In yoga, being able to control your breath can help you to control your body and your mind. No matter which style of yoga you choose there are many classes available and the health benefits are many.
